Hi! I am Doug Archibald, an instructional designer for the US Army, a teacher education specialist, and a seasoned online instructor!
There is no greater calling than that of teacher. That is why I have spent much of my career as a designer helping teachers be successful in online and blended settings. In a university setting, I have trained over a hundred teachers on how to be successful in online and blended environments. I have created hundreds of hours of course content for the Army and for universities (multimedia, assessments, online courses, lesson plans). Lastly, I have written and helped publish critical research regarding teacher training in online and blended settings. My work has been published and presented in journals and conferences such as the Journal of Online Learning Research, TechTrends, AECT, SITE, the British Journal of Education Technology, and Learning Design and Technology.
The goal of all my work as a designer is to reduce the costs of education in order to give access to quality education all across the nation regardless of student age, background, time commitments, or experience with technology.
My research focus has been on preparing teachers for work in blended settings. Feel free to explore some of my articles and conference abstracts below!
My wife, Amanda, and I enjoy hiking. So far we have bagged: Mt. Timpanogas, Provo Peak, Mt. Nebo, Big Baldy, Squaw Peak, Y Mountain, Mt. Olympus, Grandeur Peak, Buffalo Peak, and have attempted Cascade and Lone Peak.
I love music. I play the piano, trombone, and organ. My wife, son, and I enjoy singing and playing together. I also enjoy playing the organ for our church. On top of all this, I teach classes to the children in our church on how to sing.
I am fascinated by history and fantasy books. Some of my favorites are Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, Name of the Wind, the Hobbit, the Way of Kings, and Tiamat's Wrath.
